Supported independent living (SIL)

Consistent supervision and skill building in a shared Hunter Care Group-owned home.

SIL involves shared supports with other housemates. A roster of care is developed in the beginning to identify the supports each participant needs throughout the week.

A SIL-trained team offering 24/7 support

We offer NDIS-funded supported independent living for people who need full-time support while living in a shared property. Our aim is to help participants live as independently as possible in an environment where they can make friends, have fun, and feel completely at home.

All of our supported independent living workers are inducted by us and receive ongoing training. They’re never subcontracted. We know that routine and consistency are important to reduce anxiety and help build relationships, so our SIL staff work the same day and time every week.

What does supported independent living include?

Help with everyday tasks, such as preparing and cooking meals, and personal care, such as showering and getting dressed
Support with chores such as cleaning and tidying
Going shopping to buy groceries and other items
Help with learning healthy eating habits and doing exercise
Enabling participation in social activities outside of the home
Social activities in our homes, including BBQs, where our participants and staff can relax together
Basic medical care, including wound care, distributing medication, medical assistance, taking you to medical appointments

Our easy referral process

If you need support, why wait? We make the referral process quick and easy while keeping it personal – and personalised.

Make a referral

Fill in a referral form

We request that the referral form is completed with as much detail as possible so it speeds up our intake process. This information allows our team to identify our availability to provide the requested supports and also to match the referral with the most suitable team member.

Meet and greet

Once confirmed, one of our friendly team members will organise a time and place to meet. During this stage, we get to know more about the participant and how you’d like us to deliver the requested NDIS supports. We’ll also provide the participant with an information and welcoming pack explaining our services.

Develop a goal plan and match the participant

The information gathered throughout the referral process is compiled to develop a comprehensive goal plan in line with the participant’s wants, needs and requests. The relevant support worker or service is provided with this goal plan to ensure everyone works collaboratively to deliver high-quality, tailored supports.

Process complete in 5-10 days

This is our expected turnaround time from initial referral. Sometimes this may take a little longer, depending on the requirements of the service. Our team will be in touch throughout the process so you know the expected timeframe. Your supports then begin and are continually monitored and reviewed to ensure they’re delivered to a suitably high standard.
